Student vs. Pro
on Apr 17, 2007 at 10:51:44 pm

Hi,

Can anyone give me clue on the different features between Maya Student and just plain 'ol Maya?

I've looked around but haven't found the information readily available.

thanks.

what exactly do you mean? Are you talking about the difference between Maya PLE (Personal Learning Edition) and the commercial version of Maya?

Maya PLE is a special edition of Maya for personal learning use, which:
- uses a different file format (you cannot read in PLE files in regular Maya)
- displays watermarks in the render
- lacks some speed optimisations and functions that you do find in commercial versions.

There is also an educational licensing scheme for Maya, which allows you to get the commercial version for a fraction of the full price, but you need to prove valid student id in order to get it, and you cannot use it in commercial productions.

Maya PLE is a free version of the standard Maya, but has a watermark on all renders

Maya Student discount is the same as the standard maya, but cost I think about $250
Maya Unlimited student discount was $479 last time I checked

Full Prices:
Maya Standard is $1999
Maya Unlimited is $6999
