Does anybody know how to create a proxy workflow for HD footage in a maya set rebuild? Our 2 live action plates need to be uncompressed HD at 1920x1080, but our 3D artist is asking for smaller files to work with. So, is there an easy way to create a proxy image sequence that can then be referenced for final output only, thereby maintaining image quality while allowing the maya artist to work more quickly?
I'm assuming you mean generating proxy images for your artist to use as image plane? Thats relatively straighforward. Just take your HD full rez seq into a batch imaging program (or a compositing app)and generate half rez(960x540)files (i preffer SGI files, small compress lossless well, read fast).
Have him set up a 1920x1080 camera in maya, and use the proxy as the image seq for it. The apsect ratios should line up perfectly, and he should be able to scrub pretty fast.
Then at rendertime, he can just turn off the BG image and render full 1080 files for the compositors.
