Mirrorball modeling

Mirrorball modeling

Hi, I'm looking for some advice on the best process to model a mirrorball (the club kind NOT HDRI).

I'm pretty new to Maya modeling and wondered if the look could be achieved by simply applying a shader/texture to a sphere primitive? or do I need to create an polar-array of the actual mirror titles?

I guess my aim is to offset image quality against render time (as always ;))

The easiest way to do this probably is just create a polygon sphere with the number of faces you like, bevel it, then turn off normal smoothing.
voila, then all you ahve to do is assign the relfective shader. If you want the little white lines like in the pix, you'll have to select the beveled edge, and apply the white shader to those faces.
