Newbie ? about working with free character rigs, and resolution settings....
on Jan 12, 2007 at 5:34:58 am

I have downloaded a couple free character rigs to practice on in maya 8. But they all appear low res/ "boxy," even when i hit the clapboard render icon.

Is there a way to view/render them at a higher resolution? Am i missing a setting somewhere?

Thanks

Dan

btw...the 2 rigs im working with are Alfred, and Packageman.

All the best!

Dan

Two possibilities spring to mind (although I don't know those specific rigs).

First, it's possible that you're viewing the low-res geometry on one layer, which is meant to help you animate but is not meant to render. See if there's another layer with more detailed geometry; if so, hide the low-res and show the high-res before rendering.

Second, it's possible that these models are designed to be smoothed before being rendered. Try applying the Smooth Polygon tool and see if that helps.

Hope one of those is useful.
