Rendering a shadow pass
on Dec 19, 2006 at 1:59:45 am

Hello,

I read that the simplest way to do a shadow pass in mental ray is to turn off "primary visibility" in the object's render stats, while leaving "cast shadows" on. Works fine, but what if you have dozens of objects littering your scene? Do you really have to turn off visibility forty-eight times? Isn't there an easier way, say, in the render globals? Any ideas?

Thanks - Serge

Select all the objects, then use the Attribute Spreadsheet. There should be a 'Rendering' tab, and you can highlight the entire column for 'Primary Visibility' and turn them all off at once.

Perfect. That solved it nicely. Thank you.
