RfM can't handle 16 bits

Help deperately needed. My 16-bit colour maps are coming out all wonky and screwy with renderman for Maya 1.0. They look like drunken colour bars. Never seen anything quite like it. They come out fine when I test them down to 8 bits. Other renderers seem to handle them fine in 16 bit as well. Just RM.

Any ideas? Somebody? Anybody?

Should have added - the script error says:

rman Error: unexpected connection topology at lightLinker1.link[1890]
