How Do I Make a Bar Graph
on Oct 31, 2006 at 3:37:16 am

I am trying to make an arrow go up and down on a graph. As the camera dollies along the grid, the camera moves up and down as it moves along the grid. How do I do that with Maya?

Some sort of motion path?

Thanks for your help.

I don't quite get what you're trying to do but I think you want "attach to motion path" option under animation I think, not at workstation right now. Then make your keys.

Thanks for replying - Here is a better idea of what I am trying to do, arrow animates up and down over a period of time (45 seconds) For example, The rise and fall of the stock market. As the camera dollies across a background, the arrow moves up and down as it is going side ways. The tip of the arrow is always in view, but the "tail" of the arrow starts at one point and continues to grow. And the arrow head leads the way.

Something like this: http://www.digitaljuice.com/magazine/default.asp

Thanks for your help.

I am using Maya 7

I think Chad's tutorial may come into play on this one. You'll likely have two main pieces - the arrow shaft that fluxuates in size as it animates across the screen (lightning bolt drawing on is what I imagine, your link didn't take me to what you were talking about), and the arrow head that doesn't change size.
