how would you uvmap this polygon object?
on Aug 17, 2006 at 11:54:45 pm

does anyone have any tips or suggestions on how I could go about uvmapping this piece of geometry? I've tried several different ways but have had absolutely no luck with it. Right now I'm trying to figure out a way to do a planer projection from the sides/front/top but am worried that each time I make a selection on the faces I want to project, they may overlap other faces on previous projections. If anyone has any suggestions on how to map this I would love to hear them. Thanks again!

It's gonna be a pain any way you slice it (pun intended). Check out these tho:

As Chad mentioned. Pelt UVW mapping works great for organic surfaces! I use it quite a bit for charachters etc.

But thought I'd mention you can use the unwrap tools in Maya 7 to great success. Tip is that you need to select the faces you decide should be part of 1 UV shell, hide them and continue around your car until they are all spoken for as selection sets. Then with a little trial and error you can unwrap it! Use your selection sets though...

Good luck,
