light fog
on Jul 13, 2006 at 12:57:55 pm

Howdy. I've got a light fog effect on some spots I've mapped a fractal to break up the light and it's working well, but the light is too even - there's too much of a distinct line where my fog starts and stops. I'd like the light to feather into nothing gradually the further away from the light source I get. Do I want some sort of ramp to taper the density off at the end? I tried the decay to quadratic but it made my light very uneven and too hot on one edge.

Also, are the fog attributes accessible in the attribute spread sheet somehow or are you relegated to the channel box by multi-selecting the nodes?

TIA!

You can certainly map a ramp to the density. You will probably want to use the ramp as a projection and multiply it with the fractal you're using.

The colour and intensity attributes do show up in the attribute editor; make sure you actually have the lightFog node selected (for example by clicking on its tab in the attribute editor, and then clicking the 'select' button in the AE's bottom left corner).

Thanks, Steve! I'll give that a shot.
