smoothing illustrator paths in Maya

I've been bringing in Illustrator files into Maya, and the circles are all blocky. Does any one have an idea of how to bring the paths in so that they are perfectly smooth?
thx

have you tried selecting the curve and hitting the 3 key? To see if it's just blocky in the viewport?

it renders blocky too. i figured the circle would be imported like a nurb, but instead it looks low-poly

Hmm, i'm not in front of maya right now, but i think there are options for the curve import that might tell it whether to bring it in as nurbs, polys, etc. try checking that out.

I've found the best way to rebuild Illustrator paths (for text or logos or whatever) that look blocky is to select path, go under Modeling module, Edit Curves/Insert Knots/change to Between Selects and adjust # Knots to taste. That way the corners and general appearance of your path remains the same but it adds additinal Knots to smooth out curves. No idea why Maya resorts to such bad approximations of Illustrator paths...
