disappearing floor textures...
on Jun 4, 2006 at 10:40:33 pm

Greetings,

I'm currently working on scene from a tutorial where I have some boxes and wires scattered around a room (room is simply the inside of a polygonal cube with a texture applied), but am having a problem with the room texture dissapearing. The tutorial I'm following had these steps for the room model

-Create a polygonal cube (width 25, height 10, depth 25, subdivisions 1/1/1
-under modeling menu set select, edit polygons/normals/reverse followed by display/component display/backfaces (to see the inside of the cube more clearly)
-apply room texture
-selected one face of the interior of the cube and did a number of extrudes
-a separate face (the floor) is now having trouble displaying the room texture as a result

What's weird about it is that when I rotate the camera at certain angles I can see the texture, but even a slight change will cause it to disapear. This problem started happening directly after I extruded one of the faces to create the window shown in the screenshots below.

Has this happened to anyone before? Just wondering if anyone has experienced this and knows what may be causing it. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated

Thanks again!

One thing i would try is selecting the floor faces and doing a planar projection on the Y axis. When you do poly modelling on a object, it can sometiems cause the UV's to do wonky things.

Doing the planer projection on the Y axis wasn't able to fix the problem, but it did take care of some other issues I was having. Thanks a ton for the suggestion even if it ended up fixing something else :) For now though I think I'm going to put it aside until I get a little better at Maya, having a blast working on texturing anyhow
