Combine 3d(plus shadow) in real photo without a plane?
on Feb 17, 2006 at 11:45:58 am

Hey everyone
my question is ::

Im trying to combine an object with a real life photo.. lets say a table but I also want that object(3d) to cast shadow on the table(real). Ive tried unchecking the Visibility but that takes off the shadow aswell.. any way of doing this ? Im rendering Mental Ray in Maya. (and probebly will use HDRI).

Thanks in advance to all repliers !

Apply a 'Use Background' material to your table stand-in. You can adjust the appearance of shadows with the Shadow Mask attribute.

Thanks it works !
but when I try to use a renderer I got called Turtle , The plane (with the use background shader) appears as if it was glass.. and I cant make it go away.

Any idea on how to solve this ?

Thanks in advance.

I don't have experience with Turtle, but I did notice that the Use Background node has settings for Specular Colour, Reflectivity, and Reflaction Limit. My first suggestion would be to set all those to zero/black.
