I know its possible to import 3ds files into maya, b/c i did it once succesfully, but for some reason the 3ds files i have now aren't working. I see something in the outliner when i import, but i'm not seeing any 3d objects. Is there some sort of camera setting I need to change like the clipping pane? Please help, its really important that I get this to work. And I do have the 3ds importer bonus tool by the way.
and sometimes they are gigantic. You need to pull wayyyyy back to see a hubcap, doorknob, or some portion of the object. If that's the case, select the whole thing and scale it down to a workable size.
