please help - custom image size preset??
on Jan 12, 2006 at 3:44:33 am

How the heck do I save custom image size presets into the Render Settings>Common>Image Size> presets drop down list. Surely there is a mel file that I can add my own settings to? The maya help files tell me nothing and I've scoured the web. You'd think this would be an easy thing or they'd have a save button near the drop down.

Please - if anyone can help, I'd be very grateful.
Cheers

This took a bit longer than I would have orginally thought but here it is:

C:AliasMaya7.0scriptsothersimageFormats.mel

I wasn't able to find this through normal mel means

whatIs changeMayaSoftwareResolution;
help -doc somecommand;

etc.

But a great resource and the way i found this is through Bryan Ewerts mel How To section located at:

http://www.ewertb.com/maya/mel/mel.php?howto=65

Hope that helps.

Actually you should never have to change the system imageFormats.mel

In your local directory mel path you can create a userImageFormats.mel file that will append any custom formats to the render globals pull down. Much safer as you are not modifying system scripts that install with maya.

default location is My Documentsmayax.xscripts where x.x is the maya version number.

a litte more info:

the userImageFormats.mel file should look like this:

global string $gUserImageFormatData[] =
{
// name width height aspect ratio
// -----------------------------------------------
"MiniDV 720 480 1.333",
"DVDWideScreen 747 450 1.66",
"DVDEfficient 634 382 1.66",
"DVDSmaller 556 335 1.66",
"Half_1.85_Film 1024 554 1.848",
"Full_1.85_Film 2048 1107 1.85"
};

obviously the quoted entries are some of my customs and can be changed how you wish, the important things are the global variable declaration assignment. This tells maya how to load and apply the data.

Thanks Sean!

I should be doing things that way. I'm lazy so I usually hunt down the Alias mel file, make a backup of it in a subfolder and modify the original. But you've made me realize that I do this for every new version of Maya i receive when if I had been doing this to my userSetup.mel file all along I wouldn't have too.

Cheers.

True that!!

You can also copy the original alias system mel file into your user mel directory and any changes will be sourced over the original system mel file. This is a handy way to modify system scripts with custom changes that are easily bypassed if need be.
