Basic Modeling Question...

Sorry to post this here but I'm new to 3D Modeling and trying to grasp some of the basic modeling concepts...I am using Softimage XSI and I'm trying to model a helicopter. My main question is about where to begin, should I use polygons or nurbs? I can easily take a primitive sphere and reshape it into the main body of the copter, but then I'm not sure on how to create the windows...should I use a boolean method? I know I'm being vague but any direction I can be pointed in would be a huge help...if anyone knows of any XSI tutorials on this or anything.

to answer your question - you could boolean but it would be hard to build the shape by cutting polygons up and creating your own holes - it'd keep the topology neat anyhow
