Layer Pass Rendering...
on Nov 4, 2005 at 6:57:13 pm

Hey All,

Quick rendering question. I'm rendering a scene that has 6 render layers. I'm rendering each layer in its own pass, except for the default render layer which I have turned off, and compositing them all together later (so that I can make tweaks and stuff, you know...). BUT, I have an environmental fog in the scene, which I would like to be applied to all layers that I am rendering. Is there a way to tell the software to use the fog (or any object or enviromental effect for that matter) in all the render layers without actually duplicating it numerous times and placing a fog in each render layer?

Thanks,

Ben

No, but you should render a depth pass instead if it's a simple fog affect your after by its self and use to fade/blur etc. your other passes.

If it's a complicated swirly blah blah pass then you can setup the above but you'll have to use matte shaders assigned to various objects etc. and render individually.

Good ruck,
