I have an object that is lost in space far far away from the grid. I cant just set its postion to 0,0,0 cuz i think its transformation was frozen. Is there an easy way to return it to the grid?

a nice little trick someone told me about is to: select your object, move tool, hold down "x" then middle mouse drag it anywhere... it will snap to the grid coordinates of where ever your mouse is :)

helpful little thing when your working on a scene far away from the origin and need to make a poly cube at your current coordinates.

You mean the object is, technically, positioned at 0,0,0--but the points that make it up are way off in the distance?

First, use Modify -> Center Pivot, then move it back to the origin (by snapping or entering numeric values).
