Learning Maya in the Houston area?
on Aug 21, 2005 at 8:58:38 pm

I am an assistant editor working in the Houston area interested in learning Maya. I was wondering if there were any other Houstonians out there willing to meet and talk with me about learning maya. I have also been looking at the gnomon dvds. Anyone know if these are any good and what would be the best one to start with after the learning the interface one?

The gnomon DVDs are great. They have some bundles, you might wanna look at the "getting started" one for an overview of maya. To be honest it really just depends on what you want to do, if you're looking to get into motion graphics I would focus on the Modeling, Animation, Lighting/Rendering, PaintFX, and Dynamics. Then if needed look into Digital Sets and Fluids. Also check out http://www.alias.com/glb/eng/community/silver_home.jsp

Alias has very good learning material as well.

If you order a book you usually have a bundled DVD with it and sometimes more friendly than Gnomon.
