Shatter, Earthquake, Wood/Iron snapping ect. - seeking inspiration.

Hi,

I'm doing an animation of an elevator-shaft. I'm leaving the inside of the elevator, through the vent. Going up the shaft along the cables and wires - all to the top. Here I want to see the wire snap! I want to see all the little iron-threds unwield and fly wildly around. I also want the cieling to colaps and debree fall down.

Now! Let me say at first . I'm not seeking a solution to a problem here. I'm not expecting you guys
sitting in all weekend and creating an earthquake for me.

I'm meerly seeking inspiration and a bit of guiding.

Where do I look to find something about making wires snap?
Where do I look to find something about making debree and rocks crumble?

Hope one of you could point at something.

Thanx.

take a look at Digimation.com. They have a plugin called "Blast Code" that can simulate breaking things. It produces dust and debris as well.

.k.

Thank you. It looks quite good for things exploding and cracking/braking.
What about a cabel-wire snapping, with all the little threads unwinding?

[R303] "What about a cabel-wire snapping, with all the little threads unwinding?"

Depending on how much detail you want for that, you might be able to use PaintF/X. You can apply PF/X brushes to curves that you animate in your scene, and you can also animate many properties of the brushstrokes themselves, making them react to forces etc. You could probably get a passable effect with some fiddling.

Thank you guys.

I hope I'll be able to make it look realistic, because without that realistic atmos, my effect will come out like is't plastert on to the movie.

Again, thank you x 1000.
