Audience or crowd generator
on May 25, 2005 at 5:05:57 pm

I know there is specialized software out there to do this but I'm just looking for a quick dirty way of pulling this off. I have a race track with grandstands and I'm wanting to populate it with folks. I'm almost thinking 3D stick figures might work, a simple sphere for head with cylinders for torso and limbs with maybe some accessories (hats, flags in hand, etc.). I was just wondering if any of you had to do something like this and has a better (easier) idea?

Thanks!

Why not just composite real people in there. Go out and shoot a bunch of your friends and clone them in as poly planes (animated or non animated texture)?

That's a good idea. I have a blue screen and could have them sit on a blue box ... I think I'll give that a shot, thanks!

Just a follow-up it worked fine. My company already had waist-up pics of folks in their department so I knocked out the background and did a few rows and then duplicated. :-P Made my scene real heavy but what can you expect from hundreds of poly planes. Thanks for the suggestion!

There's an "audience" Paint Effects brush up on HighEnd3D:

I've never used it, but it might be worth a shot...
