Sound in Maya Timeline

I dragged a sound file onto my timeline, but the wave form is huge....when i scrub through it or play it back, its exceptionally loud, and very distorted.

And its not my computers volume..and the file plays normal on it own...the entire waveform fills the timeline....is there a way to adjust the volume of the sound file in the Maya....or do I need to mess with the actual file separately?

If so what should I make sure the properties of the file are, besides the file formats(wav, aiff)?

thanks

Dan

Nevermind...i had to export it out of quicktime in stereo rather than mono at best quality...that seemed to work...

Is there a way to adjust the volume of your sound file at will within Maya? This seems like a necessary feature but I can't find anything on it.
