extuding along path issue...

hey guys, if you have a sec could you look at this playblast I made? Im trying to figure out a way to extrude some geometry around the 6 so it looks natural. However the 6 is fat in some areas and thinner in others... I trued to use latices but when the geo extruds over it, it kinda pops. (look at video)... any one got a decent solution for this?

Here is a fairly straightforward solution.

Start by creating the finished object, using extrusion or lofting or whatever method is easiest--so long as your isoparms stay perpendicular to the path you want to animate along.

Then select an isoparm on the resulting shape and use the 'Detach Surfaces' tool with History turned on. This will give you two surfaces which meet at the isoparm you selected.

Hide or delete the second surface, and then animate the 'Parameter' attribute of the 'detachSurface' node. As you animate it from 0 to the maximum value, the 6 should appear to extrude just the way you want it to.

how about animating two curves that folow the "6" shape and then (with history ON) LOFTING those curves into a surface?

does that work better?

Yet another way; Attach the 6 profile curve to a curve represeting the 6's path and after animated the way you like (scale up down the profile curve) perform an animated sweep.
