Newbie - File Texture ??Backside??
by

I am new to Maya... so apologies if this is very elementary to some but any help would be really sweet.

I am trying to get the backside of a texture to to be a different file - no luck. To be more specific...

Imagine a Coke bottle model with appropriate graphics.

I currently have a layered shader that consists of:
1) lambert with a file (.tga) coke label Coke Label
2) a second lambert with a different file (.tga) Back of Coke Label
3) blinn (glass)

No matter what I have tried to date, when I render the scene, the ~Coke label graphics show up on the back of the label.

Please help me wrap my head around this.

Peace,
Mika

Hi, Mika. Welcome aboard, and good luck with your efforts using Maya!

There is a section in your Rendering manual called 'Double-Sided Shading' that addresses this issue. In my (outdated) version of Maya, it is in chapter 20, 'General Utilities.' If you can't get it to work for you, post again and we'll see if we can help some more.

Steve, thanks so much. Indeed it is documented in the manual and in the online help (Maya 5 OSX).

I am all over it :)

Peace,
Mika
