I've just ordered a Canon Vixia HF G30 on Ebay. It's my first video camera designed for video. I've been using a Canon T3i and Zoom H1 for the past few years. I've very excited.
The Canon Vixia HF G30 has canon's "mini advanced hot shoe" for accessories but I haven't seen any great accessories that take advantage of it. The only accessories I see are adaptors to a standard hot shoe.
I'm wondering, and I can't be the first to think of this, would the XLR handle from one of the sibling pro XA cameras fit the G30 mini advanced shoe and add true XLR inputs to the Vixia?
For example, could the Canon D87-0110-000 Complete Handle Assembly for XA10 for example, fit the Vixia HF G30? The assembly can be had for about $160.
Has anyone tried this with any degree of success?
I know that there are XLR to 1/8" adapters that will put two mono XLR channels to the L/R of the 1/8" stereo input on the Vixia, but I'm wondering if Canon's proprietary hot shoe would take their grip?
What is the point of the proprietary mini advanced hot shoe?
