how to force canon eos c100 media repair?
on Aug 28, 2015 at 5:36:56 am

My battery exhausted during my last shot in the field. The file directory on the card seems affected, as the number of clips shows up in log and transfer in FCP7, but all clips except first one are empty (no thumbnail, 00:00 duration). I put the card in the camera, and all the clips are readable.

I have tried reading the card in-camera to computer via usb, no change. i have tried copying media to another card, but the corruption/blank clips are identical (i.e. no file structure repair in the copy process)

Clearly the card needs repair due to the power loss during recording, but the camera is not identifying the card as being affected. Is there a means to force a media repair in-camera?

or is there another mac-based log and transfer software i can try?

I noticed the card is readable in Sony Vegas, but i prefer to go direct to Prores via FCP

I decided to try ClipWrap and lo and behold, all clips visible. On a hunch, I downloaded FCPX and all clips visible there as well...so it is some issue with FCP7 reading this particular card.

Needless to say, solution found, I am happy to have the clips back.

...so I guess the lesson learned is...when confounded, try different software.
