I am having trouble digitizing footage into Final Cut Pro. It was shoot with an Canon XL2 and recorded at 30p and in 16x9. When I try to capture I get about 2 minutes into the capture and my deck pauses. On capture window i get a message that says looking for timecode breaks. I know that their a not breaks in the tape. I capture things all the time, but this is my first time capturing footage that was shoot in 30p. Do I have to set up my preferences in some special way to capture footage. Or is it my deck that is causing the problem. Working on a special projects and it would be a shame not to be able to get this footage in.
Mac OS 10.4.10
2x3 GHZ Dual-Core Intel Xeon
Final Cut 6.01
To capture widescreen 30P just use the same FCP preset that you would normally use to capture 60i from your XL2, which is DV NTSC Anamorphic if you live in NTSC land or DV PAL Anamorphic if you live in PAL land.
If you're still having TC break issues and you know for sure there are no breaks on the tape, trash FCP's preference files and give it another go.
FYI, whenever I have had excessive timecode break problems when trying to capture Canon footage I have always had success by alternatively digitizing my footage into a FireStore and then importing the clips from the FireStore into FCP.
