Any good Canon service shops in southern MA?
on Mar 22, 2007 at 1:55:57 am

Hi,

I just want to have my GL-2 cleaned, gunk removed, heads re-calibrated, etc. Mostly maintenance type of stuff. A videographer from RI recommended a shop in Providence (Public Sound), where I brought one of my GL-2's in today. I guess they are reliable, and don't charge a lot for a simple cleaning (one place in Dedham quoted $300!).

But they are not a Canon authorized service center, and he said it could take up to 2 weeks per camera (which I can't afford). Plus its definitely a trip for me (I am in Brockton, MA).

I still have one more GL-2 I want to have cleaned-so are there any good places in the south shore? I guess I wouldn't mind a little north of Boston, but going into Boston is almost as bad as Providence. Although for a reliable good Canon shop, it could be worth it.

I'd just rather have a company who knows Canon well work on my cameras-so any help is much appreciated!

Thanks-

Ken

many repairs on Canon 3 chip cameras can only be performed by the Canon service centers in Irvine and NJ.

What about maintaining the 3 chip cameras? Can I trust a local shop to clean and take care of a Canon?

Thanks-

Cleaning - absolutely if you pick the right shop. But resetting to factory specs and doing a thorough check - probably not. In my understanding there are some fairly routine tasks to do with calibrating the CCD unit that only Canon Factory Service can do.

Thanks Peter,

Maybe I should just send it in to Canon. But I'm assuming it would take at least 2 weeks before I got it back, and I hate to go that long without my camera. Plus I have a wedding coming up on April 14th.

But I guess I should do it right. Thats weird that Canon doesn't let anyone else service/maintain their equipment. There's probably at least 6 good Sony shops around me!
