GL2 record/pause problem
on Aug 23, 2006 at 6:37:27 am

The GL2 returns to record pause mode on its own during recording.

After pressing the start/stop button to begin recording, the camera intermitently returns to record pause mode and PAUSE appears in the display without actually pressing the start/stop button (the camera does this on its own).

Pressing the start/stop button restarts recoding as expected.

The frequency of returning to record pause varies from a few times a minute to one time in half an hour.

When the tape is played back, it plays as if the videographer chose to stop and start recording as often as he/she liked by pressing the start/stop button.

Any assistance with this is greatly appreciated.

If there is a RESET button on the camera, press it (it returns the settings and micro-processor to "factory condition".

But I doubt this will do the trick, buy its the place to start.

Could be as simple as a "sticky" button.

Or as complex as a defective "logic" chip.

Regardless, if a "reset" does not solve the problem, a trip to the service center is the only hope.

Just underneath the Rec button, there is a small "Standby/ Lock" switch - once you start recording, try setting that switch to "Lock" to lock the functions of the camera in that current state - maybe this might act as a temporary fix to allow you to get some recording use out of the camera.

Otherwise, your camera needs to be sent in to Canon Service. I hope that your GL2 is still within the 1-year warranty period! For toll-free technical support, please call 1 (800) 828-4040 during regular business hours (currently Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 midnight. EST, Saturday 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m., excluding holidays). Toll-free TDD Support Line for the Hearing Impaired Monday - Saturday (excluding holidays) at 1-866-251-3752 Technical Support for Customers in Canada at 1-800-OK-CANON

Make sure that you give them as much information as possible as to what is wrong with your camera when you call.

Wishing you well,

Please disregard my last posting!

Uggggghhhhhh... sorry,,, MY mistake... My last posting is a prime example of why you should not try to give out technical advice while you are holed up in a Las Vegas hotel room at 4am in the morning... my suggestion that you should try switching the "Standby/Lock" switch into "Lock" to lock the functions of the current state of the camera is erroneous - if you switch to "Lock" the camera goes to black... sooooooooooo, just please kindly disregard that suggestion! I'll be back home from the WEVA expo in Las Vegas tomorrow...

It does sound to me like your GL2 needs servicing though!

Thank you for your understanding,
