XL H1: Tips for 'warm-film' look
on Mar 11, 2006 at 6:48:14 am

I will be shooting outdoor interviews next week (early morning and mid/late afternoon California semi-golden sunlight) for a doc, using the XL H1. I am looking for some tips for achieving a warm/filmic look with that camera. I am brand new to the H1 after owning an XL1 since 1999.

I did procure a black pro-mist 1/4 filter.

Thanks-

Hepkat

my advice - unless you have a lot of control and a lot of time (or a mattebox) - add the filters in post. You could tweak the WB to warm up the shot if you think you can improve on nature's "golden" hour

Diffusion filters provide different amounts of diffusion at different focal lengths to match the diffusion in CU and WS you will need more than one filter

I would definitely play with the awesome array of image control functionality the XLH1 provides -

Do you use Warm Cards? I just bought some of those and they work just awesome!
