Is Canon XM2 adequate for shooting Short Film for Festival?
on Sep 5, 2005 at 3:15:01 pm

Hello people!

I own a Canon XM2 PAL camera. I am looking at shooting my own short film for an Australian Short Film Festival (the Sony Tropfest). I was wondering if my camera was adequate, or would I need something with better quality?
I understand that if I want the "film look," that I simply need to shoot film. But I don't have that budget unfortunately. Is HDV that much better that my Canon XM2?
Many people in forums are commenting on the Panasonic DVX-100a as being the choice for indie-films etc.

I would like to shoot wide-screen. Can I ever get that 1:1.85 ratio on my camera? I know my 16:9 is like a "stretched" 16:9 done electronically.

Is the new JVC or the Panasonic or even the Sony HDV range worth buying to shoot a short film? I have plugins in my After Effects suite that color correct to give a film look. But I'm not sure what the picture from my XM2 will look like on the big screen.

Can anyone shed some light on this matter?

Many Thanks,
