Recommendations for Blu-Ray player for testing self-authored blu-ray discs - BD-R
on Aug 14, 2012 at 8:06:12 pm

Hello all,

I'm just starting to author blu-rays on my mac to be used as screeners for film festivals.

Because I can't play a blu-ray on the mac, i need a blu-ray player to test my authored single-layer BD-R discs.

(FYI I'm using Compressor and Toast to author).

While I'm buying a blu-ray player I really want to be able to use Netflix streaming with it too.

Can anyone recommend an appropriate blu-ray player under $150? (or $200 maybe)

I'm looking at the Panasonic DMP BDT220, which had initial Netflix issues which as far as I can tell seem to be largely resolved.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Cheers

Hi Ben,

I also like the Sony, but don't have the model number handy as I am at work right now. Has the wireless capability for NetFlix, Hulu, Amazon, and many others, has worked very well for online viewing as well as proofing DVDs and Blu-rays that I make.

Thanks

Im happy with my Sony BDP-S580, even though it has built-in wifi I use a Netgear Ethernet over power adapter to get Ethernet to all my entertainment centers devices- http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002J9G5XG

Hi all, thanks for the thoughts.

Yeah, I was looking at that Sony..

In the end I went for the Panasonic DMP-BDT320, as mentioned.....

You know what, so far so good!

I should mentioned It's right near my Airport Express (the WiFi source), but it steams Netflix no problems. Picture is great, no stutters.

And it's also played all my burned discs so far... burned DVD-R and burned blu-ray BD-R haven't been a problem.

:-)

ben,
you should also look for a panasonic-player as a 2nd player besides your sony player.

I´ve seen some issues on panasonic while they haven´t been shown on sony and vice verca...

so it´s good to have both players for testing purpose.

cheers

danny
