Need Script to Play Track 2
on Apr 25, 2012 at 4:31:36 pm

Hi:

I have a DVD project with 2 tracks. Track 1 loops until the play button is hit, which then activates Track 2. At the end of Track 2 the project reverts to the Track 1 loop. I've got everything working except for a script that causes Track 2 to play when the play button is hit. I've set both Title and Menu to play Track 2 but of course there is no preset for Play - it needs a script. Can anybody help me out?

Thanks,
John

Could you give us more informations?
Which authoring system are you using?

Usually something like your loop track 1 will be defined as menu!
Play button is linked to track 2 which is defined as title.
At the end of playback it links back to the menu!

There is no need to script something!

Sorry, should have been more specific. I'm working in DVDSP3 on a presentation video. There is no menu, just 2 video tracks and 1 subtitle track. First play is set to Track 1, which is just video and audio track 1 and it returns to itself for continuous loop. Track 2 is supposed to be activated by the Play button but I see no way to do that without a script. I have both Title and Menu set to trigger Track 2 (which jumps back to Track 1 after playing).

What I need is a simple script that tells DVDSP to play Track 2 if the Play button is pressed. That's all. Anybody got an elegant solution?

TIA,
John

It will not work the way you want
You can't assign a specific action to the button you want directly!

If the subtitle track is assigned to track 2 you can realize what you want by a simple trick:
- create a title containing track 1
- add a button with 100% transparency over the whole screen size to the full lenght of the video
- assign 100% transparency to all the button states
- make the button pre selected by delfault
- link the button to track 2

Since play button on remote control will work like an ENTER button while the disc plays a menu, track 2 will be started after pushing PLAY!

You wouldnt use scripts but DVDSPs Buttons Over Video function. It's basically an invisible button covering your entire track. Set this to the other track

But tell the client they need to hit "enter" not play.

Hmm, yes. That's my experience as well. Problem is, they want to use the Play button. I can't seem to find any way to make that happen. Enter causes the track info to display briefly, partially obscuring the start of the video track. Guess I can put a slight delay in the play start. Sure would like to enable to Play button though....

Many players will start action of the pre-selected button if play button is pushed!
It really depends on the player!

But you cannot (or at least should not) author on what most do.

DVD is a closed spec delivery method you have to play by their rules.

Your comment is related to discs authored for replication (should be playable on every player). OK, but my suggestion is not against DVD spec. I just tried to outline a way & I just assumed the disc is for a special presentation purpose! Shure, this has never been mentioned so my suggestion may will not match the client's needs by 100% but the result would be close to what the threada starter wants.
He can take the choice depending on the client's needs!
If the disc should work on every available player by start via PLAY button, OK, that is simply not possible!
If it should work at least on selected players, OK you can find some which would do that so!

I have authored a very similar disc with a the same simple navigation mode for a museum.
The client's demand was to start the program by hitting the PLAY button on players front panel.
The realization was as simple as described here in thread!
We just have tested many players on the market to take care of it will work!

Not every disc is for mass replication.
