7D DVD quality looks terrible.
on Feb 18, 2011 at 5:33:23 pm

Hi, I recently started shooting on my 7D and need to deliver footage on DVD. I export form FCP and burn in DVD Studio. The quality looks awful. Very pixelated and heavy shadows on faces, not sure whats going on. The Export looks fine.

Anyone know the 7D to DVD workflow?

This question is asked probably twice a week

You need to down convert your sequence to 720x480 NTSC or 720x576 PAL uncompressed 23.98 16x9 anamorphic first. After this you can encode with Compressor you get the MPEG 2 file you need. FCP isnt very good down conveter...best to use Compressor for this

hi,
you can use MPEG streamclip to do a good downscaling (PC and MAC)

if you are on mac, you can also use bitvice purifier for downconverting - is doing a real good job.

I am on a Mac and have MPEGstreamclip. So whats the process of downscaling through Streamclip? My FCP export is 1080x720 59.98.

If you're on the Mac, Just use Compressor staight out of your timeline to create a 720x480 16x9 anamorphic uncompressed or lossless file then used that file again to make a MPEG 2 file. Never used MPEG Stream clip for down conversions so I cant say.

Also Do a search, there are tons of good posts on this topic already.

I wouldn´t prefer streamclip as well, I would do it with purifier - much better quality.
