Blu-ray Authoring Solution Suggestions?
on Jun 12, 2010 at 5:51:20 am

Hey Everyone, i need some advice on a Blu-ray authoring solution. I basically have mastered Studio Pro over the years but want to be able to deliver for HD Blu Ray as well as stereoscopic 3D blu-ray in the future with similar ease of menu design & linking. I've been told Studio Pro does not do the trick in the Blu-ray format. Any suggestions as to design & author software, possibly Adobe Encore, and more importantly, a good burner & software capable of those formats, especially the 3D. Thx, Jim G

I would check out Netblender's tool. In fact that would be the only option unless you want to spend $100K. Remember, DVD is not Blu Ray so your mastery of DVDSP will do little good. :) You really want to do your homework by reading up on the technology first.

Hey Eric thanks for getting back to me and I do appreciate the snark. If you read my post you obviously know that I'm aware of the diff between Blu-ray & SD DVD as well as the inability of DVD Stu Pro to work in that format (thus the posting). I am still looking for someone with experience in delivering full HD 24p on BR to advise me on a reliable burner & design software with an eye towards S3D menu design and burn capabilities. I am aware that the 3D Blu-ray spec is just being rolled out, but I do know people have been delivering their Stereoscopic & 24p HD content in single stream muxed H.264/AVC on Blu-ray for the last year or so and just want to know what they are using and like. I'll be encoding in Episode but am looking for a software design & burn solution for the authoring, not a proprietary 100K set up. Appreciate the Netblender ref. but that's for how do you say it...oh yeah...Windows. Thx.

Sorry you took my help as snark-like. I think you took my warning the wrong way...Ha Ha!!

There are only 3 tools which author 3D titles: Blu Print, Scenarist and Do Studio and they are all Windows and none are prioritory. Encore is a joke really so i dont bother mentioning it here.

3D titles are only done by the studios at this point. It requires special authoring, encoding, players, HDTVs and glasses. You can encode a passive 3D image and put that on disc but this isnt that same as 3D BD. Basically, there is no cheap, easy to use option for BD.

Futhermore, Episode does not output a compliant stream for both their VC-1 and AVC settings last i heard so when i say do the homework, it really might help you :)

I think NetBlender would be perfect for you. Did you read the links? You said you wanted something similar to DVDSP in your first post. There are none, but Netblender's tool comes very

Thx again Eric, and don't be embarrassed of embracing your inner snark, I really do appreciate it. I was planning on mastering this job to HDCAM SR Dual Stream and sending it to Modern VideoFilm or maybe PassmoreLab for S3D-BR authoring, (might you have experience with Passmore? I know Modern) but the client requested anaglyphic/passive on BR so I thought why not dive in and deliver on my own. I will look further into Netblender beyond a quick read, I just saw Windows and Bootcamp and went no further, I still don't quite understand Jobs' refusal to acknowledge the existence of Blu-ray other than furthering itunes enslavement. As far as burners go, is a burner a burner or are there expanded levels for full bandwidth HD video authoring?
Thx Again,
Jim

Ahh yes...Modern Video. Their QC Department is second to none!
Burners are burners as far as I know. Does Passmore do authoring? I thought they just did production.
