DVD Architect - Slideshow
on May 3, 2010 at 3:45:15 pm

I want to create (my first) slide show with a music track using DVD Architect. I'll be scanning old slides as well as still photos of different sizes.
When I convert the scans in Photo Shop, what resolution should I use?
Also, should I try and make all the photos the same size?

Thanks for any help,
Diane

I should have also said that I'll be projecting this onto a large screen, rather than showing it on a laptop.

1st - your "movie" will be 16:9 or 4:3 ?
PAL or NTSC?

It's going to be 4.9 NTSC. I'm scanning old slides and prints and the final DVD will be projected on a wall or screen with a music soundtrack.

Ok

This is copy from Scenarist SD User Guide:
Still images for 16:9 Widescreen
When creating still images for a 16:9 Widescreen project, special steps are required to ensure that the images are displayed correctly. You should create the images initially at a resolution of 960 x 480 for NTSC and 960 x 576 for PAL.Then, just before importing the image into Scenarist SD, resize the image to 720 x 480 for NTSC and 720 x 576 for PAL, therefore recreating the anamorphic squeezing effect that is performed on widescreen video. When the content is played back, it will be stretched back to its original widescreen aspect ratio.

100% this work with DVD Architect :)

! after resizing images to 720*480, you'll need to apply 0.5 pix vertical blur to reduce flickering

OR may be....you can use software for creating slide-shows?
ProShow, Imaginate etc - create video file with transitions, effects and titles?

Thanks for your response, but it's not a Widescreen project. I accidentally typed 4.9 instead of 4.3 in my response.
Sorry for the confusion. Should the resolution be 72DPI?

Thanks

OK, thanks Roman,
I'm not sure when I adjust the color space but maybe that will become clear as I proceed. I'm intending to scan the slides, bring them into Photo Shop for color correction, resizing, etc. then put them on the time line in DVD Architect which has a chapter on "Creating a Picture Compilation" and "Generating slideshow animation" but no info on how to prepare the stills.
I can't afford to buy any new specialized software right now, so I'm hoping DVD Workshop will do the trick.

Photoshop's corrections - this is Levels (16.235) and Blur (0.5 pix)
