I know the music on menu pages on DVD's is usually quieter...is there a ratio (example - 4db lower than your program audio) that anyone works with?

I usually sit my audio levels in my primary video about -14 to -20db.

Thanks.

Typically matching your program audio is a good way to go because then the user isn't surprised by higher or lower levels in the program that they have to adjust for.

Yes as Noah said if someone set their volume with the menu you don't want them jumping for the remote because the program is higher.

But DVDs are like CDs in that they are mastered to 0dB, there is no reason to leave headroom for the peaks.
