Driving into work this morning I heard on the radio that Disney has decided to only release High Definition DVD's on HD DVD. They are dropping the Blue Ray format. I'm not sure if I misheard my radio or not. I couldn't find any official information on the net. But if this is true; Disney/Pixar and Paramount are now exclusively backing HD DVD. Here's an article link below:

While this by no means ends the format war. It certainly thickens the plot.

Is there really a war? There are so many ways to view HD programs and there will be so many more available as time goes on. How much a part of the future is HD DVD and Blue Ray? A lot has changed since SD DVDs were introduced. Just a thought.

[Thomas Hughes] "There are so many ways to view HD programs and there will be so many more available as time goes on."

Exactly. HD DVD and Blu-Ray are only a part of the equation. However, with so many HD standards already and perhaps even more in the future it becomes a nightmare for content creators.

"Let's see now, I need to buy an HD DVD burner, a Blu-Ray burner, a consumer HD DVD player, Blu-Ray player, Then there's the emerging PCMCIA express flash card media for initial aquisition from the new XDCAM EX (that isn't for sale quite yet). 480p, 720P, 1080P, 1080i, HDV, variable frame rates, P2, HDCAM, DVCProHD, AIR SICK BAG".

My head is starting to spin.
