how to author DVD without re-encoding existing vob file
on Nov 6, 2006 at 8:07:38 pm

i have a DVD that was produced by a stand alone DVD recorder. the material is about 3 hours long and appears to be encoded in fairly poor quality 352x576 mpeg2. i need to trimm bits off the end of the video and make a new menu and burn it back onto a DVD. when i try importing the vob file into DVD architect it informs me that i do not have enough space on the DVD - even though i set the project defaults to 352x576. it also sais it needs to re-encode the video. not sure why?

basically what i am asking is
1. how do i trim a vob file without having to re-encode it
2. how do i author a DVD using an existing vob file (at 352x576) without a. the need to re-encode and b. running out of space ...

any help would be greatly appreciated.

if dvd architect cannot do what i want. is there softwate out there that does?

A must have app:

http://www.squared5.com/

Never used it with a 352x576 stream but give it it go!

Also, make sure DVD Architect supports this aspect ration (352x576) it's supported by the DVD spec but rarely used.

DVD architect not support 352@576 - why? i don't know :)
You need Sonic Scenarist/DVDLab/DVDMaestro

Or if you not need menu features you can use IfoEdit (free)
