Menu - 4x3 or 16x9
on Oct 17, 2006 at 10:43:28 pm

In designing a menu for a SD disk with a widescreen anamorphic feature, should the menu be 4x3 or 16x9? Customer agrees that the letterboxing of the feature is "good" on 4x3, but wants the menu full sized. If the menu is 16x9, it will automatically letterbox if played on a 4x3 setup. If 4x3, it will pillar box on a 16x9 setup. Right? So we have to choose?

You got it. You better use 16:9 letterbox, letterbox menu on 4:3 is far more acceptable than pillarbox menu on 16:9.
