can I makle a dvd in standalone dvd recorder and then duplicate it?

Hi

We have a client who we are editing a documentary and want to leave with the final draft each night. We are buring it to a consumer dvd-r burner ( panasonic branded) and then we want to dup it 5 times. But when we try to dup it in our microboards unit it will not copy it.

Can this be done or do they write the folders differently in real-time dvd standalone burners than computwer based dvd encoders?

Thanks for your help

Paul

I've found some of these standalones do create uncopiable discs. Not sure whether this is some sort of copy protection or just a quirk of standalone burners.

It's a quirk in your duplicator.

my standalone copier copies them fine though.

an easy way to get around this problem is to simply copy
the dvd on a computer, then copy the copy. Not sure why
but it removes that issue from the disc. At least it
does for me.

That's what I thought but I've gotten client burned DVDs in the past from standalones that I couldn't do anything with- drag and drop, rip or dub. Weird.

Sometimes they need to be "Finalized" in the dvd recorder before you can do anything with them. Could that be the issue?

I know that definitely has been the issue sometimes.

I have a Panasonic E95 standalone burner (with hard drive) and the only way I can copy the (finalized) discs that are created with it is by using DVD Shrink. I don't believe that program is downloadable any more, though, due to copyright issues. Trying to copy with Nero would only give me the menu, and nothing else.

DVD shrink is still available: http://www.dvdshrink.org

I haven't tested that many standalone burners but the one's I have testet use copyprotection and enables the macrovision bit on the dvd's.

Here's my suggestion/summary of what's allready been said:
1. Disc must be finalized
2. Duplicate disc in DVD shrink (it removes copy protection and macrovision)
(just click open and then backup... It's fully automated)
3. Disc is ready for duplication either through computer or duplication machine. You should not have any problems with it as dvd shrink removes copy protection.
