DVD-R burn speeds

I got into the habit of burning at 4x. Now that I have a new burnder which goes up to 16x, I am still burning at 4x, because I have read lots of advice to burn as slow as possible for playback reliability.
Does this still hold true with faster burners and faster rated media?

Thanks

Mike

Replicators all tell me to burn at 1x for replication masters
if it all possible because the slower you burn, the less
errors will be on the media.

Now these errors may or may not cause playback issues but
they certainly do affect DVD-R replication master discs.

That's why DLT are still recommended, or even DDP, if supported by the replicator. Burning a DVD at 16x is like burning a CD at 52x, or like going at 250-300km/h and hoping not to hit anything :)
