independent tests of archival gold DVD media? (MAM-A, Delkin)
on Sep 15, 2005 at 6:42:42 pm

Recently both MAM-A (Mitsui America) and Delkin have introduced "archival gold" DVD-R media which uses 24 kt. gold as the reflecting layer, instead of the more commonly used silver or silver alloy. They make claims about the longevity of this media (over 100 years). This media selling for $2 to $3 each.

Is anyone aware of current or planned independent tests that would include these DVD-R types? Is there any independent data to support the claims?

NIST did a small study on CD-R/DVD-R media reliability last year, and mentions an ongoing comprehensive study with the Library of Congress, but I haven't seen anything more about it. http://www.itl.nist.gov/div895/gipwog/StabilityStudy.pdf
