DVD Playback on PC versus Mac
on Jul 21, 2005 at 8:48:43 pm

I have a Pioneer DVD Recorder PRV-9000. I have it hooked up to my camera to record in real time. It records with a bit rate of 9.29 Mbps. Now, after I finalize the DVD, I can play it in any regular consumer DVD Player. I can play it in my G5. I cannot play it back properly in my PC running either XP or 2000. I have updated my DVD player and the decoders on the PC. I can get it to play after some time of loading, but everytime the scene changes dramatically or I change the chapter the computer or DVD seems to freeze for quite some time.

I am wondering if this a a RAM or Proccessor Speed problem vs. a DVD problem.

Any thoughts?

Davis

Get your bitrate down to around 5-6.

use dolby for audio not L-PCM (if you are)

make sure your using good quality media.

that should clear it up.

The standard calls for a video datarate of no higher than 9.8Mbps for video only. I bet my Philips 963SA could play it.
Windows can't play DVD's 'out of the box' unless you have a 3rd party decoder installed and they vary in quality/capability vastly (or should that be Vista-ly)
