Little money, big ideas.

Hi,

Does anyone have any suggestions for lighting a bathroom scene? I'm filming a short in a very small bathroom with tiles, and will have the bath full of water. I don't have the best lighting equipment, and just wondering if there are any tips for this situation?

Thanks.

With how you'd described it, I'd look to bounce the largest instrument I had off the ceiling for a nice even wash. Mirror/vanity practicals would certainly add to the look, maybe they could be lamped down some?

Before getting any deeper, though, what's the mood/nature of the scene?

That's what I was thinking. The mood is I guess solemn, but wanting to bring out the color of the bathroom (retro bathroom) to juxtapose visual/emotion of the scene.

If it makes sense that the door can remain open, that's a good place to shoot in some practical light, as is a window. Doors and windows can also suggest time of day or night, depending on the color and color temperature, but also on the ANGLE the light comes in at. Sketch and post the general floorplan of the bathroom, it will help.
