Needing some extreme slow-mo

Hi all...

I've never had to do any real extreme slow-mo before (nothing faster than my own in-house cameras could handle), but now I'm tasked with such.

For an upcoming project I need some much-more-overcranked shots than I'm used to (or equipped for) getting (probably something in the 1,000-1,200fps range, just a guess).

My first thoughts are just to rent a Phantom for the shoot (probably the Miro). At first blush that seems to be the easiest/best/fastest/cheapest way to do it... but, having never had this need before, I could be wrong.

I'm perfectly happy to do it that way, but wanted to see if anyone had a "Have you thought about such-and-such..." that would be better.

Thanks!

Todd,

You are on the right track. I've used the Miro a few times and it is the easiest way to get the speeds you are talking about.

Best of luck!

To ditto Rick, if you need that slow, Phantom is basically your only option.

Thanks Rick and Gary...

Haven't used it, but you can rent a Miro pretty cheaply, about $1500 a day (or a little more than $2K for a week), seems pretty straightforward and don't need a Phantom tech, and it will go more than fast enough for what I need.

I appreciate the backup....

Don't forget to budget for some extra lighting--depending on how fast you're going, you may need a little extra punch at those speeds!

Yeah I figired I would need plenty of light.

Even though we use much lower light levels these days than in years' past (I pretty much exclusively light with battery LEDs now), I still uaually keep a couple of HMIs on the truck, just in case. Hopefully that will cover us.

Thanks to all for the advice.
