Surprisingly, asking this in the most obvious forums got me no answers at all, so I'm trying it here:
My wife is getting ready to do a months-long sculpture project in a corner desk area of her studio, and I need a bullet-proof and economical HD webcam make and model to connect to her iMac and run using one of the various freeware intervalometers and time-laspe programs out there. The web cam will be locked into one fixed viewpoint of the workspace and occasionally be set to record real-time, but mostly shoot time lapse stills, commanded by the imac. I'll combine the stills into movies for her in post. What I really need is a suggestion for a great HD webcam for this, in the under-a-hundred-dollar range.
Any suggestions cheerfully considered. Please help. What else you going to do, you're snowbound:-)
