Lens mount bible?
on Dec 10, 2011 at 4:12:21 am

My favorite forum professionals,

Is there a universally accepted list of standards for camera mounts and lenses? In the bicycle industry (my day job), Sutherland's Catalog lists the specs (and therefore compatibility) of almost every significant component ever made. Anyone in the camera world compare Canon (incl. FD), Nikon, Leica, PL, etc., with up to date listings (Red, 4/3rds) in a technical manual? Love anything you could point me towards...ML

I've never seen a single resource that was so detailed, but it would be a valuable reference. Here's a wiki reference - since it's a community thing anyone can add info on compatibility info.

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lenses_for_SLR_and_DSLR_cameras

I saw this one for Nikon lenses:

http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/compatibility-lens.htm

And this lens mount guide:

Nowadays you can find a converter from one lens type to just about any other. There are so many lenses released all the time for photo use, it can be confusing.

Thanks Jonathan,

I guess the practical question is is there an adaptor for the lens/camera you want to work , or not. The mm are academic. I was of course thinking of adaptors, reading a Matthew Duclos piece,
http://matthewduclos.wordpress.com/
and wished I had a chart for which lens sits closest to the sensor, or which mount diameter is largest. So many manufacturers in so many industries, and so few work together... thanks again, ML
