I am shooting a campaign promoting high school football. I want to open the piece with the stadium lights flashing on with sfx. Of course, we all know that those stadium lights take forever to warm up. How do I fake this effect in the camera and post?

what about locking the camera down, shooting the lights as they warm up, then speeding the shot up in post?

Tom,

I just shot this very thing last weekend at the NCAA Track & Field Championships. Needed transition from day to night, so I shot a time lapse of the daylight falling, sky getting dark and the field lights revealed.

You can also have them on and shoot them turning off then reverse.

Speaking of stadium lights, among the things that Todd is doing when he's not posting here...and sometimes when he IS posting here...is DP-ing the television show "Friday Night Lights."

Follow the link in his post, and check out his reel, chock full o' some truly glorious footage from that show.
