CMOS chip v.s 3ccd. The battle is on. Right? Which camera is best?

This new CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) chip I keep hearing about in the sony cameras, is this better than 3ccd chip technology, im trying to decide whether to buy a camera with my favorite 3ccd chip technology, but then i hear cmos is better, is this true? and why?

Iam going to shoot a feature length in HD, with plenty of green screen, in 24p, but i need to decide whether to go with the cmos or 3ccd camera. There will be lots of special effects as well if that may help.

there is a link with one of the cameras im considering,

I want to achieve the best quality under $4000.

Thanks guys/girls.

The CCD still has better dynamic range overall due to the sensor sites being small on a CMOS sensor...

I think it's still best to try to take cameras for a test drive...it's the only way to see if you like what you see. we're all looking for different attributes.

i think that CMOS is the future, but thanks to them coming on strong, capable CCDs are reasonably priced.

It all depends on what your filming, if your filming any motion at all i would go for the 3 ccd cameras the CMOS cameras as they may get better quality and movement on them can ruin that. The camera i think would work is a panasonic dvx100a or b. They are full HD 3ccd cameras and they take beautiful video.

The DVX 100b is a terrific camera, but it is not at all HD. It is SD. It records to DV tape in DV format. I consider it the best of the SD prosumer cameras, and it is still made. Surprisingly, Amazon currently has a better price on it than B&H.

If you do not need HD, then it would be a good investment. I shot an available-light doc (http://rickwisedp.com/RW%20Director/kansas_harvest.htm) with it some time ago and was pleased with the results in bright sun as well as in very low light. However, the technology is now outdated.

Has anyone heard which is more prone to dead pixels on the sensor? I have a 3CCD camera that got a dead pixel after 1 year of light use. I also have a CMOS camera.

Someone told me that all 3CCD cameras will get a dead pixel or 5 in their life time.

Any word on CMOS in that area?

Thanks.
