crease in gel, is it a problem?
on Apr 24, 2013 at 10:24:50 pm

I just bought some gels, and several of them have a slight but noticeable crease in the middle, about two inches long. I have not used gels before and am not sure if this is something to be concerned about. Do I need to return them, or is this not a big deal? Thanks!

It's no big deal .... depending on your OCD level.

[Dennis Size] "...depending on your OCD level."

Best answer I've heard on the COW in a while. Nice, Dennis!

You mean CDO, with the letters in their proper alphabetical order AS THEY SHOULD BE

A crease won't affect the light much. It would affect the image if you out it over a lens though.

It's rare to see a gel crease in the light. Depends on the use and fixture. Cyc lights are the one place that creases and wrinkles can sometimes be seen.
And depending on the fixture, I think gels with heavy creases fail slightly faster compared to a smooth gel in the same fixture. This is mostly noticeable in a studio where the gels stay in the same fixture all the time, like color splashes, cyc, etc.
